Civil litigation is a lawsuit where one party sues another party, unlike Criminal litigation which involves the State suing an individual.  Civil Litigation can be advanced by anyone who has been wronged in some way by another.  Among the many types of civil litigation are contract litigation, personal injury/tort litigation, land use litigation, and probate litigation.

Before you decide to file a lawsuit, you should meet with a lawyer to discuss the merits of your case and the potential cost.  If you have been served with litigation, you do not have a choice.  You are in the lawsuit and need a lawyer to respond according to the Rules of Civil Procedure to protect your rights.  If you do not respond appropriately, you may lose by default.

Personal  Injury lawsuits usually involve suing an entity or an insurance company or both due to injuries that you suffered because of the actions or lack of actions by another.  Before you file a personal injury lawsuit, you should meet with a lawyer to discuss the merits of your case and what lies ahead for you should you decide to sue.  Some types of personal injury matters require practitioners with special skills relating to that type of injury (for instance medical malpractice).  Your lawyer can guide you to the best person to handle your specialized claim.
